The movie “Dear Family” released in June 2024 (Director: Sho Tsukikawa, Screenplay: Tamio Hayashi, Original story: Hidetoshi Kiyotake, “Atom’s Heart: A Record of 23 Years”) (Written by Hidetoshi Kiyotake) Bunshun Bunko) Production company: TOHO Studio, Production company: “Dear Family” Production Committee, Distributed by Toho, Starring: You Oizumi) I’m sure many of you have seen it.This movie is based on Hidetoshi Kiyotake’s original work, “Atom’s Heart: A Record of 23 Years of Dear Family,” and this non-fiction story focuses on Nobumasa Tsutsui, the chairman of Tokai Medical Products, and his family.After discovering that his second daughter had a congenital heart disease, he started with zero knowledge and aimed to develop an artificial heart, and although he gave up on that goal, he succeeded in developing the first domestically produced IABP balloon.
Tokai Medical Products’ product development has been supported by Dr. Hideshi Tomita, the current chairman of the Heart Saving Project. In the movie “Dear Family,” a scene of catheter treatment in Mongolia appears, and this scene was modeled after Heart Saving Project’s volunteer treatment activities in Mongolia.
